Beaubelle - Poubelle
Schönheit & Müll

"Beaubelle - Poubelle" (beauty and garbage) is a video installation that reflects the ideal of female beauty created by the media.
Underneath this installation is a pile of garbage made up of crumpled magazine covers with similar headlines, representing the excess of media influences and the so-called "being littered". [german: “zugemüllt werden”]

The overflowing dustbin symbolizes that even the magazine cover featuring the model will eventually be discarded and replaced. It reflects the notion that "beauty is fleeting" and underscores how our society treats it as disposable.

By creating the 'Beaubelle' magazine cover series I used artificial intelligence to generate the models.
I instructed the AI to depict 'attractive young women as perceived by society,'. These were the results.

The headlines featured on the covers are borrowed from real magazine covers

In my video installation, I engage in a dialogue with the viewer and a projection.
I deliberately position myself in front of a screen, attempting to conform to an idealized
image or societal standard. Its about the tension between self-perception, projection
and the reflection of the individual within the societal.
